Propane
Propane for Residential
For our residential customers, we offer two delivery options: keep-full or will-call. As a keep-full customer, you will enjoy the convenience of being on our regular delivery schedule. We will monitor your tank levels and fill you up when you need it. As a will-call customer, you will monitor your tank levels and give us a call when you need to schedule a delivery.
Initiating deliveries is easy. A short credit application allows you to open an account. Just call the office location in your area and our helpful staff will work with you to get a delivery scheduled. We also fill and recertify propane cylinders at each of our offices.

Propane Contracting
At Consumer Oil & Propane, we offer the convenience of forward contracting for your propane needs. What this means for you is stability: you’ll know your maximum fuel costs over time.
Every part of your contract is personalized to your specific requirements, including the duration of your agreement, which can span any amount of time from August-April. We also offer a summer fill special, as well as reduced rates on contracting for several weeks, beginning in mid-July and extending through the end of August.
We require a down payment of 100% of the total propane cost at the time the contract is signed.
Propane Service
We offer a range of valuable services that help you seamlessly and effortlessly enjoy the benefits of this clean-burning and affordable fuel.
Propane Tank Install
Each tank install is different. We will assess your specific situation and develop a plan of action with you. If we are installing a new tank, it will be placed on concrete blocks that we supply. If we are replacing an existing tank and it has a liquid withdrawal valve, we can pump it out into the new tank.
Propane Leak Checks
We can also test your tank for leaks. To do so, we place a pressure gauge on the regulator of the tank. The tank is then shut off and the gauge is monitored for any drops for three minutes. If it passes inspection, we turn the tank back on, relight the pilot lights and write down the serial numbers. If it fails inspection, we track down the leak. If the leak is outside the house, we can fix it. If the leak is inside, we will inform the homeowner that a licensed plumber or HVAC technician will need to fix it.
Propane Safety
Propane is a safe method for heating your home, but please follow these guidelines:
- Review basic propane safety with all members of your house.
- Identify the locations of your gas lines and always call 811 before digging to confirm that you can dig safely.
- Handle propane tanks carefully.
- Use propane gas appliances with care.
- Make sure you store grill bottles correctly.
- Check propane regularly to make sure you don’t run out.
- Only use a qualified propane service retailer to connect appliances.
- If you smell propane, you may have a leak and need to report it.

You can download and print tax forms here.
Will I need to call for delivery or will it be automatic?
It depends on the delivery option you choose: keep-full or will-call. We automatically deliver to our keep-full customers when they need it. Our will-call customers call each time they need a delivery.
Will I need to purchase a propane tank?
No. We can provide a tank for you, as long as you only use our product and meet minimum annual usage requirements.
Is there a set price for propane?
Prices fluctuate throughout the year. However, you can lock in your rate by purchasing a forward contract in July and August.
Who monitors the level of fuel in my tank?
If you are a keep-full customer, we will continually monitor your tank level, but please contact us if you notice your level has fallen below 30%. If you are a will-call customer, you will be responsible for monitoring your tank level.
What should I do if I suspect a fuel leak in my house?
If you detect a strong smell resembling rotten eggs or a skunk’s spray, this may be an indication of a propane leak. Close the tank valve and contact us immediately.
How much propane should I expect to use in a year?
An average 2,000 square foot home built within the past 15 years should use between 700 and 850 gallons of propane. Additional factors should be kept in mind when estimating annual usage, such as home temperature preferences, the severity of the winter and additional propane appliances in the home.
